Rice Cafe @ Lorong Maarof, Bangsar KL

Interesting restaurant specialising in Nasi Lemak and Assam Laksa just off Jalan Maarof.... :)

Before I read about Rice Cafe on AWOL's blog, I never knew this row of shops just off Jalan Maarof even existed! :)
(It's on Lorong Maarof - the road parallel to Jalan Maarof, opposite the Telawi area - just turn in at the traffic lights near the McDonald):
Outside Rice Cafe....

It was nice inside - clean, simple and modern. Thankfully the comfortable environment does not necessarily translate into exorbitant prices, as the range of local and Chinese dishes seemed quite decently priced, for the Bangsar area:
Inside Rice Cafe....

I am a sucker for sour and/ or spicy food, so it was only a matter of time that the news of a good Assam Laksa (RM 10.80) tempted me to venture here:
Assam laksa....

Mmmmm.... I guess it was good comfort food but overall, the assam laksa didn't exactly rock my boat because it was more skewed to sweet+sour rather than savoury+sour. Otherwise, if you prefer the sweeter, thick broth type of assam laksa - you'll love this.

OOh, the Salted Egg Chicken (RM 16.00) was really nice though:
The Salted Egg Chicken....

Albeit being a eencey weencey bit too oily, the crispy yet tender chicken pieces were coated with just enough salted egg and fragrant curry leaves to make this a really tasty dish. :) :)

Other than that, the drinks - Barley Lime (RM 3.50), Honey Lemon (RM 4.50) were also quite nice - not too sweet and tasted freshly made:
Cool drinks....

All in all, it was a pretty good meal - the chicken has gotten me curious enough to want to venture back soon to try out some of the other dishes there.
(Apparently the Nasi Lemak is good there!)

Overall: Low key restaurant, decent pricing, located in some shophouses just off the main Telawi area, friendly service BUT nothing much bad to say except that it can be a bit tough to find parking in the area during peak hours.

Awwww... Well, luckily there's plenty of other places to eat just a stone's throw away in Telawi/ Lucky Garden so it's not so bad.

Hey, you want to have lunch there one day? It's quite near my office. :)

  6. I ta pao-ed nasi lemak with ayam goreng indonesia & nasi dagang from their outlet once... the nasi lemak was good but nasi dagang failed to impress. Somehow Village Park's version fares better
