Portugal 2008

Desktop holiday for you... European Edition - Portugal....

Came across this set of photos while trying to organise my external hard disk... :)

Sorry they're so delayed (2 years already! *blush*)... but just wanted to share these with you - really loved this trip with my family to Portugal (and Spain),... and I can't wait to go back and visit properly*.
(*Without a typical rigidly organised tour group)

One of our first stops in Portugal was at the Cabo da Roca in Lisbon:
The monument at Cabo de Roca ...

It is the Westernmost point in Europe, and was once believed to be the end of the world:
Majestic cliff side...

I think we were there in Feb or March, and the weather was beautiful - sunny yet chilly (even more so at this cliff side location):
A pathway to the cliff...

The sea was beautiful - a deep blue, majestic and still, below the sharp drop of the rocky cliffside:
Majestic sea...

My dad, me and my mum enjoying the view:
Us 3 :) ...

There was also a Lighthouse there - originally built in 1772!:
Architechural wonder...

Vivid yellow flowers amongst the spongey (cacti?) plant:
Cheerful flowers ...

Sleepy dog, near the gift shop:
Yawn ...

Aqui, onde a terra se acaba e o mar começa...
Here, where the land ends and the sea begins...

(by Camões, a Portugese poet)

Not much to do there really, except enjoy the scenery and just quietly appreciate the history behind this place... Still, I definitely liked it. :)
(What a breathtaking view! My photos do it no justice at all...)

Happy Friday!

*hugs*,
J

  3. Oooh! Portugal always bring memories of smokey and dank clubs like A Baiuca where Fadistas belt their melancholic hearts out. The perfect for someone who possesses a dark soul like me. :p

Been there only once, and thanks to your post, a timely reminder to not let life pass me by, and to grab it by the horns and start travelling again.
